Department of Student Life

The Department of Student Life offers programming that provides diverse opportunities for students to obtain practical skills and reflect on perspectives and experiences that better prepare them for achieving personal, professional and academic success. Student Life programming also creates opportunities for students to share their personal experiences, insights and values with their peers. Through these opportunities, students learn the value of engagement, collaboration and the benefits of working together to find mutually-beneficial solutions to the issues and concerns facing our campus, the local community and the world. Specific opportunities at the DSL include volunteering or participating in First Year and Transition programming, Leadership Development, and Community Engagement.

Student Organizations

UTSC offers a vibrant student life with over 120 different student organizations (student government, media, clubs, and community service organizations). In addition, there are 50 cultural and religious clubs available and 70 athletic disciplines students can take part in.

Scarborough Campus Students’ Union

The SCSU is the official representative of all undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Scarborough. As a student at UTSC, you are automatically registered as a member of the Students’ Union. The SCSU is committed to providing effective advocacy, enriching the university experience and addressing student needs and interests through the delivery of exemplary services.

It provides opportunities for involvement through two main volunteer programs. The Volunteer Network program is an initiative that helps students find meaningful volunteer experience at UTSC and within the Toronto community. The Bikeshare program through the SCSU also actively seeks volunteers who are passionate about encouraging active lifestyles, protecting the environment and promoting sustainability. To become a BikeShare volunteer, contact bikeshare@scsu.ca.

Additionally, SCSU operates and owns the Student Center and Rex’s Den through its team of 7 executives, 17 directors, 4 full-time staff members, and numerous part-time staff members, and as a result also offers paid job opportunities throughout the year.
