There are a number of reasons why you may no longer be eligible for the Work Permit that you currently hold, in which case you should surrender your permit to avoid being non-compliant and losing the ability to qualify for a permit in the future. You should surrender your permit AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if it is not expired and if:
- Off-Campus work permit:
- you fall below the required academic standing (1.60 cGPA or below)
- you are no longer studying full-time
- Co-op work permit:
- you are no longer in the Co-op program
To surrender your permit, you should:
- write a short letter indicating that you are surrendering your permit and the reason. It should include:
- your full name, address and CIC client ID number
- a short description of why you are no longer eligible for the permit
- a statement that you are surrendering your permit, and that it is enclosed in the letter
- include your original permit
You should keep a scan or photocopy of both documents and mail them to the closest Canadian Visa Office if you are abroad, or if you are still at UTSC, mail them to:
