One of the great things about the University of Toronto Scarborough is the Co-op program. The Co-op Work Permit specifically allows you to work during recognized co-op terms.
Remember!: The Co-op Work Permit (COWP) is the first part of working on your Co-op term. If you are granted an COWP, you still need to apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) card so that you can legally be paid!

As an international student, it is illegal to start working before you have received your Co-op Work Permit.

Eligibility:

  • have a valid Study Permit
  • be registered in a Co-op program

The Co-op Work Permit allows you to work full-time during Co-op terms. If you are no longer enrolled in a Co-op program, you must surrender your Work Permit to a local Citizenship and Immigration Canada office immediately.

Step :1 Gathering your documents

You will need to review the Application Guide and gather your documents. Since there is no online application for the Co-op work permit, it is important to consult the CIC website for the Processing Time, and apply at least one semester before your first placement term

Step 2: Submit your application

After making yourself a photocopy or scan for your records, submit by mail your completed paper package via traceable courier/registered mail to:
