All international students are covered under the mandatory University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). However, you may not be eligible for UHIP coverage under the following circumstances:

  1. if you are currently on academic suspension
  2. if you have graduated and your 2-month UHIP extension is over, and you have not yet secured both your Post-Graduation Work Permit and an offer of full-time employment for a minimum of six (6) months

We highly recommend that if do not qualify for OHIP or UHIP coverage, that you consider the purchase of private health insurance.

Private Health Insurance Companies

Below is a partial list of private heath insurance providers, listed in alphabetical order. The International Student Centre at U of T Scarborough does not recommend or endorse any one provider over another, and has striven to provide a general selection as a resource for students. All telephone numbers are toll-free from within Canada and students should contact as many companies as possible to request a free quote.

Tip: Insurance coverage and cost will vary from company to company. Be sure to research your options and compare pricing and coverage details before making your decision.
